5 MINUTES

That’s all it could take to better your business. Improve public sector delivery.
To help #GetSAWorking.

THE PROBLEM

Regional research suggests that only 33% of South Africans are engaged at work. Our country’s productivity is at its lowest level in 50 years. SA is currently uncompetitive and local productivity is lower than that of other comparable states.

Stagnant Economy

Having just escaped a ‘junk status’ review by international ratings agencies, SA’s economy is in dire need of a turnaround. National growth for 2015 was pegged at a flat 1.3%, down from 2014, and has strayed into negative territory in 2016. Economists say that SA may technically escape a recession in 2016: it is in ‘stagnation mode’.

Can you help make South Africa better?

Yes you can — if you lead or own a business, or influence a company’s human resources, you can pioneer a change in employee engagement that will better your business. If you’re involved with a public sector organisation, here’s the first step to making a difference.

Engagement = Growth

Research shows that companies with higher levels of workplace engagement do better financially, while public sector enterprises with greater levels of engagement perform better. This research is so convincing that eight years ago, when the world was besieged by a global financial crisis, the British government embarked on an employee engagement programme to safeguard the UK economy.

Let’s make a difference to this country - let’s work together to #GetSAWorking.

#GetSAworking

To build a better South Africa, we need to #GetSAWorking, but we can only do this if we know where we’re at, what to improve and how.

South Africa doesn’t have a national benchmark of workplace engagement levels. Regional research suggests that only 33% of South Africans are engaged at work — but this isn’t countrywide, and doesn’t pinpoint where the challenges are, or what should be done to improve engagement in private and public organisations.

Our country needs to get back to work if it is to grow, which is why Thomas International invites your organisation to participate in the 2016 Pioneers of Workplace Engagement (PoWE) survey.

A measure of workplace engagement at private and public sector enterprises, the 2016 PoWE survey will create a national benchmark of employee engagement levels. Importantly it will offer organisations confidential, but actionable insights on how to improve these engagement levels. By participating in the PoWE survey, your company will receive a diagnostic tool to help track and unpack team performance.

What will improving employee engagement do for you? Evidence shows that improving engagement enhances outcomes while improving performance and profitability. The financial implications of employee engagement are profound — studies show that a 5% increase in workplace engagement in one year can realise a 3% increase in revenue growth the following year.

But that’s not all. By participating you’ll help to #GetSAWorking. Every company that participates in the PoWE 2016 survey can nominate a like-sized, not-for-profit or public sector organisation of its choice to be evaluated.

ABOUT ENGAGEMENT

How can you increase workplace engagement levels?

The first step is to participate in the PoWE survey which will benchmark engagement levels at your enterprise.

The second step is to use a proven, scientific method that drives real results. The hypothesis that underpins engagement is simple - when people flourish in the workplace, so do the organisations they work for. Conversely, demotivated people can be bad for business.

  • WHAT AN ENGAGED EMPLOYEE LOOKS LIKE

After participating in the 2016 Pioneers of Workplace Engagement survey you will receive an empirical analysis of workplace engagement levels at your company, together with actionable insights on how to enhance engagement.

Engagement - The Science

From our earliest beginnings human beings have gathered together in groups for safety, and to achieve and grow. We are social beings, we need to be together. However, in order to thrive and engage with the group, humans have certain primal and social needs that must be met. This is as true for the workplace as it is for any family or tribe. Thomas International’s Engage model builds on this science to measure the primary human needs that drive superior performance.

Engage — the tool created by Thomas International which powers this national survey — provides a structured and comprehensive health check of your organisation. The survey  takes about 5 minutes to complete and is easy to complete. Once your company has participated in the survey, Engage delivers a quick results turnaround so that employee engagement teams can implement the survey insights timely and effectively.
